Pandora 3.0. GEN Z – Searching for Beauty
Pandora 3.0, based on a workshop at Vaba Lava with the local teenagers, is an integral part of a large-scale European project GEN Z- Searching for Beauty that three young BelgiansSalvatore Calcagno, Emily Lafant and Antoine Neufmars are conducting in several European cities. GEN Z is a shortcut of Generation Z, the young people born after 1995.
With the show, the authors aim to draw an honest portrait, without prejudice and preconceptions, of this hyperconnected new generation. What are the dreams and desires of these young people and how do they see and understand the world?
The project has been conducted so far in Belgrade in Serbia, Brussels, Mons and La Louvière in Belgium. In August 2017, a workshop with Estonian teenagers took place at Vaba Lava. The next destinations for the project will be France, Spain and Italy.
The youngsters, recruited from a street-casting, are being filmed and interviewed, which are recorded to be the basis for the further performance.
The performance Pandora 3.0 involves in alongside local teenagers also professional actors.
GEN Z is a moving art form, adaptable in each location of programming. It is conceived as a show and event that goes beyond the theater walls – it will be accompanied by a photo exhibition in urban space, open talks and film show.
GEN Z – Searching for beauty uses without filters the words of this hyperconnected generation shaping the portrait of a generation in-motion.
” Older generations tends to think in terms of beginnings and endings. They don’t understand what we – GEN Zers – can do with the internet, or how’s there’s no end to things, no way out. They d’ont understand that nothing stays private and nothing goes away. It’s like the wave – the back catching up with the front.”

He established his own style with his first project, Gnocchi, which allowed the first glimpse into the workings of his mind. This led to his first show La Vecchia Vacca (2013), the story of a boy in an Italian kitchen, surrounded by women, searching for his own identity. This boy remained in the village with his close-knit group of friends in his third show, Le Garçon de la piscine (2014). For Kunstenfestivaldesarts 2016, he presented Io sono Rocco, a music and dance portrayal of his personal diary. Throughout his work, there is an awareness of sensuality. He aspires to direct a movie and also an opera. During the 2017-2018 season Salvatore Calcagno is creating his two new shows, GEN Z and La Voix Humaine, as well as taking up the role of associate artist at Théâtre Les Tanneurs, the place he presented his first two works.
Emilie Flamant is a Belgian actress and performative artist who has graduated from the Belgian National Institute of the Performing Arts (INSAS). She has so far participated in almost all of Salvatore Calcagno’s productions. In addition, she has been collaborating closely with the Belgian director and actress Anne-Cécile Vandalem and other well-known Belgian artists.
Antoine Neufmars is a French/Belgian dancer, film and stage actor and photographer who has been collaborating with several international theatre directors and choreographers such as Krzysztof Warlikowski, Amir Reza Koohestan, Olivier Dubois, Clémence Poésy, Ula Sickle, Stathis Livathinos, Mette Edvardsen, etc.
Antoine Neufmars and Salvatore Calcagno are both involved in the theatre company Garçon Garçon, where Antoine Neufmars is experimenting with the new theatrical means of expression. In the GEN Z production, he concentrates on visual art and is a photographer for the show.
